Airplanes and Ships

Fate crosses over
And transcends human distances,
The length that goes
From one city to the other—
Nothing becomes relevant,
No distance becomes too great
For two threads forever bound,
Their blood and hearts
Beating in sync.
Fate has no regard
Over constructs we humans have devised.
She simply exists,
And whatever She pulls along
Gets pulled in whatever direction She wishes.
And such is the case with us—
We're threads constantly torn
From each other's embrace.
Our love comes in airplanes and ships,
Couriers meant to connect distances
And bridge physical gaps.
For Fate,
These are her perfect messengers
As no chasm becomes too wide
When paths cross over it.
I have no regard
Whether you're to my North or to my South,
Whether you're rising with the East
Or setting with the West.
It doesn't matter if we measure distance
In miles or kilometers,
For we shall bridge them either way.
After all,
We live and breathe
Under the same infinite sky,
Boundless and ceaseless.
And so, you and I
Are bound to meet
At the appointed hour of time,
At the designated point in space.
Our parallel lines will finally meet—
Love carried by airplanes and ships,
Of delayed flights and early arrivals.
Our souls wait by the pier, by the wharf,
Leaving departures and anticipating arrivals,
Domestic or international—
Waiting in full anticipation
With the same childish insanity
Filling our minds and hearts.
We'll sit patiently with our eyes and sights
Trained on the rolling sea
And the pervading sky—
Forever hoping, forever loving,
Anticipating the arrival of airplanes and ships—
Forever hoping, forever loving,
Anticipating the arrival of our hearts.
